The ASIA website is getting small but regular updates. In particular, I thought I'd let you know that Symposium info is starting to come online. Laurence Juber will be performing on Thursday night, and ASIA has a small discount available at a very nice little motel. There is a NASCAR race in the Poconos the weekend of the Symposium, and hotel rooms fill up fast (I found out the hard way a couple years ago when a random vacation of mine coincided with a race weekend).

svandru,
Staying on campus is cheap and comfortable. The food at the University is fantastic. I am a diverse but fussy eater. I just got added as an instructor! Photo 101 and Photo102! Details coming soon!
I will also be begging for Photographers. There are only 2 of us covering A.S.I.A "officially". As the schedule posts I will be asking for assistance in coverage of classes you may attend that we may not. Images are primarily for Guitarmaker.
Here is a link to 19 pages of images I snapped at A.S.I.A 09'

BTW - Laurence Juber concert is open to the public. $15.00 a ticket. One ticket is included in the cost of your Symposium registration.

YJ John,
I definitely agree with you about the University food, and I have no complaints about the dorm room I stayed in in 2009.
I plan to have my camera with me and take some photos in the classes I attend. I'll be taking photos primarily for the website, but Bear can use them in Guitarmaker as well.

I heard you might be doing a photo class. That'll be great. When you have a few details, I'll put them on the website.

bluescreek,
I'll definitely see you there. I'm going to get your portrait for the website! You've been warned.

I'll be doing a pretty big workshop on Saturday afternoon: one hour on CNC, one hour on CAD, and one hour on fixture design and methods with a 'CAM secrets of the pros and factories' section at the end.

They'll be targeted at both CNC users and those wishing to learn more about or work with CNC shops. The CAD sessions are design based, and mainly universal though they will somewhat follow from the 'designing for manufacture' section from hour one. I'll be demoing how to model a neck and a Les Paul style carve top body, from 2D base curves (ie: plans) in both Solidworks and Rhino.

The fixture design workshop will be of use to anyone who's ever had to hold down a piece of wood. In the last bit on CAM, I'll be essentially releasing every pro CAM secret that I haven't developed in house. In other words, everything but my own personal trade secrets. It's part of the fixturing workshop because you need to fixture like a pro to cut like one!

It's going to be a lot of work so I hope lots of you come to partake. It'll be nice to finally meet some of the people behind the names (and some of my customers) in person [:Y:]

Looking forward to seeing you Corky! What # build(s) will you bring along? I just executed (rim) a Florentine cutaway! Hopefully the done guitar will be along.

BTW folks book early if you want A/C in your room. I did a box fan last time. This time I went A/C

svandru - was that you with the SLR at Bluescreek over the summer? I will type up class details. Should I send them to you or to Bear?

Folks, bring instruments!
It is planned (providing there is room) for me to set up a help yourself Mini studio in the trade show area. It will have a nice backdrop, a basic even/non reflective lighting I will teach in 101. You can bring any stringed instrument up. Plop it in place, snap a nice shot with your camera, at your convenience. Nice portraits of your art is very important to current and future clients.

YJ John,

I have an SLR (Pentax K7), but I haven't had the pleasure to visit Bluescreek yet, so that wasn't me. On the class details, Bear and I both need the info, Bear for the symposium, I for the website. If you don't mind, could you send it to both of us?

What are the possibilities of videotaping your presentation in like a half way professional manner? I'll definitely pay for a copy as I'm sure a few other folks on this forum would.

Set up one or two cameras with a wireless mic and you'd be good to go.

I'll see what I can do. I was planning on doing video just based on the amount of work this'll take to put together VS the run-time. Hard to justify not recording a 3H seminar that took 40-60 hours to prepare, right?
